Brigitte Lacombe...

You're probably thinking why there is a picture of Susan Sarandon on my blog. Well, this is the work of Brigitte Lacombe, a French photographer living in New York. She has photographed many famous celebrities and worked on the sets of several movies.
I'm not sure why exactly I'm drawn to this photographer's work. I really love the simplicity of her shots. She uses simple compositions and backdrops, which in turn focuses your attention on the subject. I especially love the last one of Dakota Fanning. I think it portrays her accurately and naturally. Her photographs seems so natural to me, which I try to recreate in my own work. I have always been sort of turned off towards "over-edited", almost fake looking, photographs. I like that she uses a plain white background and that her subjects have natural expressions and poses. She also really brings out the eyes in her subject with the lighting she uses. I'd like to recreate some of the techniques she uses in my own pictures. If you want to look at more of her work, her website is www.brigittelacombe.com

  1. In particular, it seems, is her use of very natural lighting techniques. One of the challenges is not to "over-light" portraits. The goal is to create lighting where the lighting "disappears" and ultimately compliments the subject.
